As a Prevention Specialist Supervisor, your responsibilities generally encompass overseeing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based prevention programs aimed at reducing risks associated with substance misuse and promoting public health. This leadership role requires strategic vision, strong team coordination, data analysis, and continuous improvement efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Development and Management: Design, adapt, and manage comprehensive prevention initiatives targeting specific age groups, communities, or high-risk population segments based on identified needs, best practices, and local policies.
  • Staff Training and Guidance: Oversee a team of prevention specialists, offering mentorship, coaching, and performance evaluations; fostering a collaborative work culture grounded in mutual respect, constructive feedback, and open communication channels.
  • Resource Allocation: Ensure optimal utilization of financial and human resources through efficient budgeting, grant writing, fundraising, procurement, and allocation decisions aligned with organizational priorities and objectives.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Systematically gather quantitative and qualitative data from programmatic activities, monitor trends, assess effectiveness, and generate actionable insights using statistical tools and visualization software to inform strategy refinements and demonstrate outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Community Engagement and Partnership Building: Cultivate robust partnerships with community leaders, schools, law enforcement agencies, healthcare providers, faith organizations, businesses, and other entities involved in enhancing collective wellbeing and preventing substance misuse.
  • Advocacy and Policy Influencing: Champion policy reforms, advocate for legislative changes, and engage in grassroots campaigns that bolster resource availability, expand accessibility to services, and elevate awareness regarding pressing public health concerns related to substance misuse.
  • Professional Development: Stay abreast of emerging research findings, innovative methodologies, industry developments, and evolving certification requirements; facilitate opportunities for continued learning and capacity building amongst team members via workshops, conferences, peer exchanges, and continuing education units.
  • Risk Mitigation and Legal Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to ethical codes, legal statutes, contractual obligations, and quality standards governing prevention programming, safeguarding sensitive information, and protecting vulnerable populations from potential harm.
  • Strategic Planning and Performance Measurement: Establish short-term and long-term goals, set Key Performance Indicator targets, define success metrics, track progress, identify gaps, and adjust course accordingly to maximize impact and achieve desired results.
  • Quality Improvement Initiatives: Drive continuous improvement projects, champion change management efforts, solicit user input, incorporate lessons learned, and harness technological innovations to streamline operations, augment efficiency, and boost service delivery excellence across all functions.

Education and/or Experience Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work (preferred), Counseling, or a related human service specialized field of study.
  • Experience working with adolescents and/or substance use is highly desirable.
  • Missouri Prevention Specialist Certification through the Missouri Department of Mental Health (preferred or willing to obtain within six months of hire).
