Shift: Monday - Monday - Friday (8:00am - 5:00pm CST)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Active Listening: Foster therapeutic rapport with participants by actively engaged listening, demonstrating empathy, and validating their feelings and experiences.
  • Experience Sharing: Leverage personal experiences to model adaptive behaviors, inspire change, and instill hope in participants dealing with similar challenges.
  • Resource Connection: Facilitate linkages to clinical, vocational, educational, housing, and recreational resources, enabling participants to expand their network and achieve desired objectives.
  • Crisis Support: Offer immediate response during crises, utilizing de-escalation techniques, active listening, and resource referrals to assist participants in regaining stability and reducing distress.
  • Goal Setting: Help participants establish realistic short-term and long-term goals, encouraging progress monitoring and celebrating achievements along the way.
  • Advocacy: Empower participants to speak up for their rights and needs, modeling assertiveness, facilitating productive dialogue, and teaching self-advocacy techniques.
  • Peer Group Facilitation: Lead group sessions focusing on mutual support, experiential learning, and interactive activities centered around common themes, interests, or challenges.
  • Self-Care Promotion: Encourage participants to prioritize their physical, emotional, and psychological well-being, integrating self-care concepts into skill development and coaching efforts.
  • Ethical Practice: Adhere to established codes of ethics, guidelines, and legal regulations governing peer support practice, preserving confidentiality, and protecting participant privacy.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay abreast of evidence-based practices, advancements, and innovations in the field, incorporating latest learnings into routine peer support practices.

Education and/or Experience Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Self identify as a present or former client of mental health or substance use services OR self identifies as a person in recovery from mental health or substance use disorder.
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Pass background check or request an exception to the findings if/when applicable.
  • Complete a state approved training program and if required, pass a standardized examination
